In 1906 and 1907, Morgan1 published a comprehensive study of the bacteriology of summer diarrhea in infants. He described for the first time a micro-organism which he considered to be of etiologic significance in this disease and which today bears his name. In 1909 Morgan and Ledingham2 described four more types of organism, which are referred to in the literature as Morgan bacilli types V, X, XII and XIV.
