In 1906 and 1907, Morgan¹ published a comprehensive study of the bacteriology of summer diarrhea in infants. He described for the first time a micro-organism which he considered to be of etiologic significance in this disease and which today bears his name. In 1909 Morgan and Ledingham² described four more types of organism, which are referred to in the literature as Morgan bacilli types V, X, XII and XIV.
