REPORT OF A CASE

R. S., a 20 year old woman was admitted to the contagious disease division of the City Hospital on Nov. 29, 1933, and was discharged on Nov. 25, 1934. She was readmitted Dec. 15, 1934, and died Jan. 5, 1935.

Past History.—The patient had poliomyelitis in 1916, at the age of 3 years, after which she was operated on several times by orthopedic surgeons in New York city. Her muscles had become sufficiently strong for her to walk without support, though with a limp. The bones of the leg, but not those of the foot, had grown to the normal length.

Present Illness.—On Nov. 1, 1933, the patient felt weak and complained of gas on her stomach, of heartburn and of constipation. She had anorexia and vomited green bile-like material.
