This monograph is an extensively revised edition of Special Report 194, which was published by the British Medical Research Council in 1934 as a guide to future workers on the chemical nature of the phenomena associated with immunity to infection. There are 194 pages and six chapters dealing with physicochemical considerations (including molecular size, polar forces, structure of proteins and stability of suspensions), the nature of antibodies, the specificity of antigens and the nature of antigen-antibody reactions, in both the first and the second stage.
