EMBRYONAL CYST OF THE WALL OF THE STOMACH

REPORT OF A CASE IN WHICH SYMPTOMS OF PYLORIC OBSTRUCTION OCCURRED

In the case to be presented, a cyst as large as a hen's egg was situated on the greater curvature of the stomach near the pylorus, causing symptoms of pyloric obstruction. The rarity of this anomaly justifies this report.

A review of the literature reveals only 1 report of a case of congenital cyst of the stomach; this was presented by Lyon.1 He stated that an infant 3 weeks of age with a history of vomiting from birth had a large, freely movable mass in the upper part of the abdomen. Operation revealed a cyst, measuring 31/2 by 21/2 inches (8.9 by 6.3 cm.), on the greater curvature of the stomach, extending over the pylorus. The report is brief, and no detailed data are given of the histologic characteristics of the wall of the cyst.
