The value of the use of convalescent serum or of serum from immune adults for the prevention or modification of measles in exposed susceptible persons has been recognized for nearly twenty years. Placental extract and globulin fractions obtained from placental extract have been used for the same purpose. Attempts have been made to prepare measles antiserum by injecting into animals measles virus or organisms thought to be the specific cause of measles. In addition, the antibodies in the blood of immune adults have been "reactivated" by the introduction of measles virus through various channels, thus enhancing the protective power of the serum of these adults.

It is unfortunate that no accurate methods have been devised for measuring the presence and concentration of measles antibodies, as is possible with many other types of antiserum.
