ENDOSCOPIC COAGULATION OF THE CHOROID PLEXUS

In 1934 an operation for the relief of hydrocephalus was described.¹ It consisted in destruction of the choroid plexuses of the lateral ventricles by means of a special operating endoscope. The principle involved had been suggested many years before² and has apparently been utilized occasionally by various surgeons,³ but at that time no other series of case reports had been published. Since then, the number of patients operated on has been increased⁴; Scarff, who independently developed a somewhat similar instrument, reported five cases.⁵ The authors cited described the operative technic and discussed the respective merits of various types of instruments.

STATISTICS ON OPERATIONS
