Within the past few years numerous investigators have reported on the treatment of cryptorchidism with the anterior pituitary-like gonadotropic principle of the urine of pregnant women. The number of cases reported by any one observer has in each instance been small. Although the reports as a whole have been extremely favorable, there has arisen justifiable skepticism as regards this form of treatment in a large number of unselected cases. We have been able to treat and study ninety-six unselected patients with cryptorchidism, a series large enough to eliminate any of the chance results of a smaller series. Besides, we have observed and treated several patients with hypoplasia of the genitalia but without cryptorchidism and several with postoperative atrophy of the testicle.
