There are comparatively few reports in the literature dealing with roentgenographic visualization of the allergic gastro-intestinal tract.

In 1915 Crispin¹ observed roentgenologically in a patient suffering from hematemesis and intermittent abdominal pain a transient lesion at the pylorus; this lesion was found at operation to be due to angioneurotic edema. In 1917 Christian² reported on two patients with abdominal pain simulating acute conditions requiring surgical intervention. Roentgen studies of one patient revealed pylorospasm, slow gastric emptying and atonic loops of small intestine, and studies of the other showed a transient sausage-like shadow produced by a narrowed distal loop of ileum. In 1921 Duke³ observed an increase in the number and in the depth of peristaltic waves in the stomach and an increase in gastric tonicity during an attack of abdominal pain caused by sensitivity to rice.
