This book is a definite addition to the literature on the thyroid gland. It is not simply a review of the literature, like so many books on the subject, but is a presentation of the personal experiences and ideas of the group of men working in the thyroid disease clinic of the Massachusetts General Hospital. Under the author's leadership, over a period of more than twenty years, this clinic has been one of the most productive in its field in the country. Not only has there been ample material for study, but the cases have been critically and experimentally studied.

The subject is presented chiefly in its practical and clinical aspects. The structure and the chemistry of the thyroid gland are discussed in relation to clinical conditions.
