The whole group of mesenteric cysts and cystic neoplasms evidently belongs to the class of pathologic rarities. Until the present time less than four hundred cases of all types have been reported in medical literature. Brunetti in 1912 collected data from all earlier literature on the subject. In his series of cases he found but twelve instances of enlargement of the abdomen at birth. Since then nine other cases of congenital mesenteric cyst have been recorded. The following case is of peculiar interest to the medical profession because it adds one more to the twenty-one rare cases already reported by medical authorities.

The first mesenteric cyst of any type was described and recorded by a Florentine physician, Benivieni, in 1507.
