A STATISTICAL STUDY

An effort to establish roentgenologic standards for the size of the normal heart in childhood has been made in this investigation by means of a statistical study of the relationship between various measurements of the heart and body. To this end, data have been collected from the literature and combined with some original material. The statistical relationship has been determined between the size of the heart, as measured by both the cardiac surface area and the transverse diameter, and the measurements of body surface area, height, weight and age.

MATERIAL FROM THE LITERATURE

The material used in this study consists only of those published works on the roentgenologic estimation of the size of the heart which include all of the measurements mentioned.
