Lung Abscess in Children.

The book is a thesis for a doctor's professorship, and the author gives the impression that he is well acquainted with his subject, even though the treatise has a tendency to conform to outlines. The author believes that pulmonary abscess in children is much more common than is thought. The following subjects are discussed in short, separate chapters: the causative organisms and the views of infection; the pathologic lesions; the clinical picture; the clinical course and prognosis; the clinical characteristics, course and prognosis of amebic abscess of the lungs; the diagnosis; the treatment, and the author's conclusions. Some chapters are more complete than others. The discussion on the pathology is meager and incomplete, whereas that on the diagnosis and treatment is complete. In general a good discussion is given of the foreign point of view regarding each chapter. Not much is quoted from the English and American literature. Nothing original . . .
