The committee has enlarged the list of diagnostic titles and rearranged their order with grouping under anatomic headings referable to the part of the cardiovascular system affected. This amplification makes it possible to find suitable terms for all types of cardiac disease. Another advantage is the ready coordination with the cardiac section of the Standard Classified Nomenclature of Disease prepared by the National Conference on Nomenclature of Disease published in January, 1933.

The nomenclature is divided into:

1. Etiologic diagnosis, such as anemia, arteriosclerosis, bacterial infection and rheumatic fever.
   
2. Anatomic diagnosis, such as aorta and pulmonary artery; coronary arteries; endocardium, myocardium and valves and pericardium.
   
3. Physiologic diagnosis, such as anginal syndrome, bundle branch block and premature contractions.
   
4. Functional capacity.
   
5. Possible heart disease.
   
6. Potential heart disease.
