A study of this book gives one a knowledge of the fundamentals of normal posture and how to achieve them. The authors trace the evolution of posture in the human race and in the person from infancy to the adult stage, showing the influence of the functional and structural variations produced by congenital defects, disease, trauma and environment on the posture. One chapter deals separately with each joint, its muscles and ligaments, and coordinates them to give one a knowledge of the body mechanics producing normal and abnormal postures. Another chapter deals with diagnosis. Treatment is based on the principles of stretching overdeveloped muscles and shortened ligaments, strengthening stretched and weakened muscles and their proper coordination to give mechanical efficiency of position and movement of the body.
