Zückert was born in Berlin on Dec. 19, 1737. He started in life as an apothecary, but after four years experience began his medical studies in anatomy and medicine in 1756 at "The Charite" in his native city. Two years later he changed to the University of Frankfurt, where he was graduated in 1760 with the dissertation, "De morbis ex alieno situ partium Thoracis." Following this, he made a student journey to various German universities and finally settled in 1761 in Berlin, where he was a member of the collegium medico-chirurgicum, but poor health compelled him to withdraw from practice. He then devoted himself to writing, mostly either nonmedical or popular medical books and articles. He died on May 1, 1778.
