The aim of this investigation is an analysis of the clinical and pathologic records of the New Haven Hospital in an attempt to study the incidence of tuberculosis in the mesenteric lymph nodes of children and the association of these nodes with other localizations of the disease.

The autopsy records on children under 15 years of age dying of all causes in the New Haven Hospital over a period of thirteen years (1917 to 1930) have been reviewed. These autopsies were performed by various members of the staff in the department of pathology. All records that are incomplete have been discarded from the investigation. There remain 161 autopsies which contain positive statements of negative observations regarding tuberculous foci, and in which statements of positive observation are, practically without exception, substantiated by microscopic preparations of each tissue listed.
