GONORRHEAL RHINITIS

This case is reported because a search through the available literature failed to reveal any mention of similar cases other than the single instance reported by Weiner Framm.1 In his case, the condition developed a few days after the delivery of the child from a mother suffering from gonorrheal urethritis and endocervicitis and manifested itself by development of a purulent nasal discharge accompanied by bleeding. A smear taken from the discharge showed large numbers of intracellular and extracellular gram-negative diplococci, and cultures had the characteristics of gonococci. In this case the child developed complications of ophthalmia and arthritis, probably both due to metastatic infection.

In view of the extreme scarcity of literature on the subject, the following case is reported.
