In "Pediatrics of the Past," attention was called to the fact that no first rate biography of Benjamin Rush has been written, and this is the more curious since in the recent flood of biographies many men of far less merit and importance have been brought to the fore.

Benjamin Rush was born in Philadelphia County, Pa., on Dec. 24, 1745. Both his father and mother came from English dissenter stock, and in Rush the blood again ran true to form. His early schooling was in an academy in Nottingham, Md., conducted by the Reverend Samuel Finley who later became president of the College of New Jersey, now Princeton University, in which school young Rush continued his studies and from which he was graduated with an A.
