Frankly, the reviewer is disappointed. The author is probably one of the few men in the world today capable of writing an authoritative treatise on the subject, citing authorities, drawing conclusions and indicating the road to further investigation. There are in the text hints that such possibilities are his, but the book is no illustration of this. A generation ago Czerny-Keller produced such a book and revised it twenty years later. American pediatrics has produced none such, and Marriott could come closer to this goal than any one else.

This book is for students and practitioners and is probably the best for that purpose in English. One may not agree with the author's point of view in important particulars, but one must admire the clearcut and logical way in which the subject is presented. Nor is there anything radical about it.
