While the orthopedic textbooks occasionally mention the occurrence of a backward dislocation of the knee and state definitely that it is a more severe form of congenital genu recurvatum, the number of cases reported in the literature is small. It is only recently that these cases have received attention and that the details of the treatments have begun to appear in the literature. (A few cases were reported in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery.) This indicates that the deformity is not extremely rare, but merely is not reported.

In 1926 I reported one case,¹ and since then I have had another case. The same treatment was carried out in both instances, in the second case, however, with more speed. The recovery of both patients was complete and rapid. The principle of the treatment in these cases may prove of interest.
