The author has attempted to gather and coordinate the points of view of European writers on the subject of disturbances of nutrition in infants under 3 years of age. His technic is not the usual. He begins with a definition of Nährschäden (disturbances of nutrition) that apparently covers the subject: "Manifestations of illness that can be relieved by proper changes in the feeding are disturbances of nutrition."

A classification is essential to the development of the subject, and the author bases his classification on the etiology, modifying it by showing that no case will be found that is limited purely to one group. For discussion the disturbances are divided into those of the breast-fed and those of the artifically-fed infants. The first group under the breast-fed is given as acute and chronic inanition. He suggests irradiation with quartz light as a possible galactagogue.
