This volume is decidedly more ambitious than most of the books on the mental disorders of children. Furthermore, it is written without any qualification for medical readers. It is refreshing to find a discussion without constant sentimental appeals.
Dr. Cimbal divides and subdivides groups of cases without supporting his classification by clear arguments or by pertinent case histories. In spite of reservations the reviewer believes that this rather formidable volume is valuable and suggestive. It successfully avoids many of the pitfalls into which many propagandists have fallen, by which an argument for a theory is combined with an attempt to describe phenomena.
The author evidently believes that the mental life of children is complicated and worthy of close study by qualified physicians who can decide physical questions as well as mental ones.
