As the author states, there is a growing need for a reference work on clinical and laboratory methods of examination of children. Some book conceived and written to meet this need will be most welcome to students, general practitioners and those especially interested in children.

The execution of this idea as expressed in the volume is good but shows certain points of weakness. In an effort to be complete in subject matter included, a certain amount of thoroughness has been sacrificed. In several instances this renders the value of the book somewhat doubtful. For example, the description of technic and discussion of the Schick test and toxin-antitoxin administration for diphtheria immunization does not correctly carry out the subject. A second serious weakness is noted in describing the symptoms and method of eliciting physical signs in children; there is more discussion of the disease which may be present than of the . . .
