Radiological Case of the Month

A 7-YEAR-OLD girl was referred for evaluation of decreased vision and a large choroidal mass in the temporal area of the right retina. She was in good health until 8 months previously, when blurred vision developed in the right eye. The medical and family history were unremarkable. In all other physical aspects the patient was normal.

On ophthalmic examination visual acuity was 20/200 OD and 20/20 OS, with a relative afferent pupillary defect on the right side; refractive error was +0.75 OD and –1.25 OS and right esotropia in the primary position. The anterior chambers were quiet and the globe tensions were normal.

Funduscopic examination OD revealed a large orange mass with yellow material over the surface, located 2 disc diameters on the temporal side of the optic disc. The vitreous was clear. The tumor was estimated to be 20 mm at its base and 8 mm high . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
