This manual covers a range of important clinical topics in asthma and is written by recognized experts in the field. The 46-chapter text is divided into 5 major sections. Key points are listed at the end of each chapter. The "Diagnosis and Investigations of Asthma" and "Assessment and Treatment of Asthma" sections are especially strong. The range of severity of symptoms is reviewed in a clear and concise manner for adults and pediatric patients. In addition, the degree of airflow limitation assessed by physical examination, spirometry, and peak flow meters is discussed in detail in several chapters within these 2 sections.

The section on "Epidemiology and Pathogenesis of Asthma" offers a good review of risk factors of asthma and an insight into the natural history of the chronic disorder. The importance of airway inflammation in the pathogenesis of asthma is discussed.
