In the April 1996 issue of the ARCHIVES, Bauchner et al1 describe the use of intramuscular ceftriaxone administered once, in a dose of 50 mg/kg, to treat otitis media. Because ceftriaxone comes as 250 mg/5 mL, for an average 1-year-old weighing 10 kg, that comes to a single injection of 2 mL, while a 5-year-old weighing 20 kg would require 4 mL.
