I want to respond to the editorial by Joffe1 in the March 1995 issue of the ARCHIVES. It was a thoughtful article and actually sounded quite smug, ending with the idea that anyone that disagrees "is always wrong."
I disagree with the editorial completely. I think Joffe should realize that over half of Americans think that he is the problem rather than the solution. Does he really believe that he is more compassionate than the rest of us?
I want to request that the ARCHIVES remain a medical journal and not degenerate into a political one. If you are to continue to communicate with all physicians, you will have to air either all political viewpoints or none, and the latter course seems most reasonable.
