Sir.—Kooh and Binet1 recently presented three case reports suggesting that so-called transient congenital hypoparathyroidism (TCH) can lead years later to persistent hypoparathyroidism. The authors also refer to an earlier report by Bainbridge et al2 demonstrating reduced parathyroid response to ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid infusion after TCH. Because of the overall sparsity of evidence, it is noteworthy that Lerman-Sagie et al3 previously reported a similar case of transient congenital hypoparathyroidism with persistent hypoparathyroidism developing spontaneously 9 years after the initial diagnosis, suggesting a link between TCH and subsequent persistent hypoparathyroidism.
