Sir.—At the end of her editorial in the June 1988 issue of AJDC, Dr Noyes¹ recommends the formation of several national coalitions to attack the most commonly encountered injuries to children. One of her suggestions is to form a Child Pool Safety Group composed of "health care workers along with swimming pool manufacturers, YMCAs, YWCAs, and others." Such a group is already in existence. Encumbered with an awkward title, the National Swimming Pool Safety Committee has been in existence since 1985. It was organized by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and the National Spa and Pool Institute, the swimming pool industry's trade organization. Specific injuries targeted were childhood drownings and diving accidents. Membership on the various working committees has included representatives of the YMCA, the American Red Cross, and the National Safety Council, as well as attorneys, consumer advocates, educators, and physicians.
