In Reply.—Regrettably, a typographic error caused the 4.5 g of protein in the article by Hitchcock and colleagues¹ to become 9.5 g of protein when cited in our article.² However, we do not believe our interpretation of other aspects of their study was "Seriously in error." We cited the study by Hitchcock and colleagues in the context of reviewing studies of breastfeeding which had found growth velocities below national standards. We used data published by the National Center for Health statistics for comparison with the American infants in our sample, while Hitchcock and colleagues used British standards for comparison with the Australian infants in their sample. Although we used different standards, the results of our two studies were quite consistent; breast-fed infants grew more slowly than the standard rate regardless of which standard was used.
