In Reply.—We appreciate the commentaries by Drs Laron and Gil-Ad and apologize for omitting their studies in our report. We are, however, somewhat surprised by their findings which showed that 11 of 12 children exhibited a good growth hormone response after only 25 µg of oral clonidine. Our experience with children of similar age was quite different. As we reported, only nine (64%) of 14 children exhibited an adequate growth hormone response with a higher dose (50 µg) of clonidine than that used by Drs Laron and Gil-Ad. We do not have any explanation for the discrepancies between our results and those of Drs Laron and Gil-Ad. Since their patients were given insulin tolerance tests at various times prior to the administration of clonidine, the actual possibility of "priming" the response with insulin could be considered.
