In Reply.—Readers would be aware that from time to time virtually identical articles appear in different journals, with the only difference between the articles being an alteration in the title or a reordering of the names of the authors. No reader would have any argument that such a practice should be condemned. However, when some data from a previously or simultaneously published article are included in a different journal article to demonstrate a concept, the suggestion that there may have been duplication is much more contentious. While the article "The Development of Abused Children"1 is a follow-up study of children who have been physically abused, the article "Development of Children Following Abuse and Nonorganic Failure to Thrive"2 was written with the express purpose of pointing out similarities and differences in the development of children who have been abused and in those who were not abused but presented . . .
