In Reply.—Readers would be aware that from time to time virtually identical articles appear in different journals, with the only difference between the articles being an alteration in the title or a reordering of the names of the authors. No reader would have any argument that such a practice should be condemned. However, when some data from a previously or simultaneously published article are included in a different journal article to demonstrate a concept, the suggestion that there may have been duplication is much more contentious. While the article "The Development of Abused Children"¹ is a follow-up study of children who have been physically abused, the article "Development of Children Following Abuse and Nonorganic Failure to Thrive"² was written with the express purpose of pointing out similarities and differences in the development of children who have been abused and in those who were not abused but presented . . .
