This is the latest of very few texts devoted to pediatric nephrology and urology. The authors' stated purpose is to provide information on how much of the differential diagnosis and treatment of renal and urologic disease in children can be done confidently by the pediatrician and when consultation with a pediatric nephrologist or urologist is indicated. The text is divided into four sections. The first section deals with signs and symptoms that may be associated with renal or urologic disease, eg, manifestations of renal or urologic disease in the newborn, short stature and failure to thrive, edema, hypertension, and abdominal mass. These chapters are particularly useful because they can help to answer such questions as, "Can the child's symptoms, eg, failure to thrive, be related to (or caused by) kidney disease?"
