Eikenella corrodens Empyema

Sir.—I read with interest the article by St John et al entitled "Eikenella corrodens Empyema in Children" (JOURNAL 1981;135:415-417). Their review of the literature, however, was incomplete. In 1974, I reported the isolation of E corrodens from a paronychia.1 The child habitually bit his nails, and infection was attributed to this trauma acting in concert with normal oropharyngeal flora in an abnormal location.
