Sir.—We have studied plasma lipid concentrations in children undergoing regular hemodialysis¹ and so were interested in that group of patients included in the study by Dr Pennisi and colleagues "Hyperlipidemia in Pediatric Hemodialysis and Renal Transplant Patients" (Am J Dis Child 130:957, 1976). While we are in general agreement with their conclusions, our results showed some differences.

We studied 16 children with a mean age of 14 years (11 to 17 years). Mean energy intake was 112% ± 33% (1 SD) of the recommended daily allowance (RDA)² for height age, and mean protein intake was 111% ± 45% (1 SD) of the RDA. Mean triglyceride concentration (TG)³ was 126 mg/100 ml ± 59 (1 SD) and mean cholesterol concentration⁴ was 244 mg/100 ml ± 48 (1 SD).
