Those who remember the excellent discussion of surgical pediatrics in Pediatric Clinics of North America (vol 16, 1969) will rejoice that Dr. Gans has expanded this work to a much more comprehensive monograph. Six of the 15 chapters in this new volume originally appeared in the previous work, but three of these have been partially rewritten. As indicated by the editor, this is a book about supportive care of the pediatric surgical patient, specifically designed for the house officer or pediatrician who participates in the care of surgical patients. The accomplished pediatric surgeon will (hopefully) find little in it that he is not familiar with. But he will nowhere find it as concisely, yet completely, presented.
