Larval academic and voracious bookworm, I grew up reading anything I could get my hands on. In fact, family legend records my first sentence as "Read a book, Daddy!" Now, a grown-up pediatric resident, Im sure I join many in our field in continuing to find childrens literature a magical escape for myself and, of course, a favorite activity to share with children. I was therefore eager to embrace a recent honor roll of childrens literature, 100 Best Books for Children, by childrens book reviewer and editor Anita Silvey.
Self-titled "childrens book expert," Silvey aims to describe the 100 best "desert island" books written between 1902 and 2002 that would provide sufficient literary heritage for a child up to the age of 12.
