Many currently available books provide guidance to parents of infants and toddlers on issues of development, nutrition, and general well-being. As an unsuspecting parent of a child who was eventually diagnosed as having autism, I consulted a number of these books, only to toss them in a pile, throw up my hands, and exclaim, "This does not describe my child in any way!"
