A distinguished group of authors from various disciplines and countries have set out, as stated by the editors in the foreword, "to examine the epidemiology, sociology and pathology behind childhood obesity" and to discuss practical and realistic approaches to the problem. They have achieved these objectives with eloquence and grace. The reader may leave feeling somewhat incomplete and a little overwhelmed, but this is because the authors have so effectively pointed out the gaps and contradictions in existing research. At the same time, the reader is armed with knowledge and strategies to begin taking on the problem at every level. The references are extensive and from reliable and respectable journals and conferences recognized worldwide. The book is designed for practicing physicians, particularly pediatricians, and each section or chapter can be read individually, depending on the reader's familiarity with the topic.
