At 912 pages and almost 8 pounds, the fourth edition of the immensely popular "Zitelli" is large for its gestational age. Its 23 chapters contain more than 1700 well-reproduced full-color illustrations and photographs of a myriad of common and not so common pediatric disorders, syndromes, and physical findings as well as the normal variants with which they might be confused.
As one might expect, the chapters on dermatology, child abuse and neglect, otolaryngology, and pediatric and adolescent gynecology stand out. Unexpected but welcome are a neonatology chapter with an extended discussion and illustration of proper breastfeeding technique, a long chapter on behavior and development demonstrating normal and abnormal reflexes and a variety of evaluation methods, and a detailed discussion (in the orthopedics chapter) on injury prevention, sports medicine, and rehabilitation.
