Gilbert Burnett Forbes, MD, passed away June 26, 2003. A much-beloved figure, he remained active in the Medical Center and Department of Pediatrics at the University of Rochester in New York until a short time before his final illness. He was a creative scholar who led by example and by personal involvement in a broad range of activities at the medical center.
Dr Forbes was a graduate of the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, class of 1940. He remained in Rochester for a year after graduation for a pediatric internship before going to St Louis Children's Hospital at Washington University (St Louis, Mo) to complete his residency training.
Dr Forbes joined the University of Rochester Department of Pediatrics in 1953, after having served as the first chair of pediatrics at the Southwestern Medical School of the University of Texas in Dallas. During the course of his distinguished . . . [Full Text of this Article]
