This book is a sequel to Epidemiology of the Cerebral
Palsy (1984) and was written in response to developments in the field
of cerebral palsy research since the first publication. It is an epidemiological
book, written by epidemiologists in collaboration with experts from such disciplines
as neurology, radiology, genetics, pathology, fetal physiology, and embryology.
There are 14 chapters with a glossary of uncommon terms used throughout the
book, and it concludes with the appendix, which lists cerebral palsy registers
worldwide with contact details. The first few chapters give the reader some
general information about cerebral palsy, including its definition and traditional
classification by clinical description, prevalence, and incidence. The data
are drawn from the Western Australian Cerebral Palsy Register and are compared
with some other European countries, such as Sweden, Northern Ireland, and
Mersey, England.
