Children With Cerebral Palsy: A Parents' Guide
was published initially in 1991 as a multidisciplinary resource for families
seeking information about the needs of their children with cerebral palsy.
The improved formatting of the second edition makes the text easier to read.
Tables take the place of outlines, and pictures are now placed with the corresponding
text. The reading list and the glossary are improved and expanded. The resource
guide and list of special equipment suppliers are updated, and e-mail address
and Web page information is added. Most chapters are identical in content
except for the addition of paragraphs on prolonged electroencephalogram tracing,
intractable seizures, ketogenic diet, surgical management of seizures, hydrocephalus,
fundoplication, intrathecal baclofen therapy, botulinum toxin injections,
medications for extensive drooling, augmentative communication, and therapy
cotreatment. Readers are given information about the importance of therapy
progress reports and preauthorization of insurance by primary physicians.
