The editor of this text has assembled a talented group of health, legal,
and education professionals to describe the most common sequelae of traumatic
brain injury (TBI) and their treatment. The book is limited to nonpenetrating
TBIs. The chapters intermingle facts with case histories and comments from
parents and family members. The cases are well explicated, and the comments
provide an appropriate grounding in reality for other families, physicians,
and therapists. The authors include cases in which families do not always
see eye to eye with the treatment team.
The first 2 chapters describe the pathophysiologic and medical consequences
of TBI. Like most of the book, these chapters cover the entire spectrum of
TBI rehabilitation, from hospitalization to the return to community activities
such as sports and driving. Although the medical information is accurate and
well illustrated, the language is a little sophisticated for most parents.
