The World Health Organization Oral Rehydration Solution in Pediatric Practice: A Comment on the Methodology

We read with great interest the article by Ladinsky et al1
that compared parental satisfaction with a packet-based oral rehydration solution
(WHO-ORS) to satisfaction with a commercially prepared oral rehydration solution
(C-ORS).
We are concerned about the satisfaction data reported in Table 5. The
authors report that 97 families were initially enrolled in this randomized
controlled trial and 91 families actually completed the follow-up interview.
In the table, the C-ORS group has 50 respondents and the WHO-ORS group has
47 respondents for a total of 97. It is unclear why families that did not
complete follow-up surveys were included in this analysis.
Furthermore, if we look at the individual satisfaction measures that
were surveyedpreparation time, ease of administration, appearance,
cost-effectiveness, etcthe total number of respondents in each category
within the C-ORS group is consistently 42 (n = 50) while the number of respondents
