While I certainly enjoy the "Picture of the Month" feature in the ARCHIVES, I was upset by the photograph on the cover of the September 2000 issue. The photograph graphically displayed the genitals of an infant girl. While I accept that this is an appropriate photo for the "Picture of the Month" section, I strongly believe that it should not have been displayed on the cover of the ARCHIVES for all the world to view. Many of us receive the ARCHIVES at home where nonmedical adults and children can view it. In addition, the postal carriers see the cover each time they deliver the ARCHIVES to our homes. Nonmedical personnel can misconstrue the reasons for displaying such a photo, especially if they do not realize that it is on the cover of a medical journal.
