During the last 25 years, hundreds of books have been written on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Hawthorne Educational Services, Columbia, Mo, for example, lists in their current catalogue more than 70 books on ADHD that have been published in the last 3 years. One may ask, therefore, why do we need another one on this subject?

Accardo and his 3 fellow editors obviously believed that there was such a need when they revised and considerably updated their 1991 book. The second edition is nearly double the size of its predecessor. It now is 710 pages long and contains 39 chapters by 46 authors. It covers clinical information on ADHD in depth and also a broad range of related chapters from neurochemistry to social skills development.

The book as a whole has a balanced perspective, but its emphasis is clearly on developmental disorders and neurobiology. For example, the text includes background chapters . . . [Full Text of this Article]
