Dr Millichap has been writing about attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) for more than 30 years and has served as editor for Progress in Pediatric Neurology and Pediatric Neurology Briefs from 1987 to 1998. He has written a concise and easy to read book on ADHD aimed at parents, teachers, psychologists, and pediatricians.
The book is divided into 12 chapters, each arranged in a short question and answer format covering most questions thought of by parents and asked of physicians. The first 4 chapters include a definition of ADHD and its causes, symptoms, and diagnosis. There are 3 chapters on conditions that may complicate or may be comorbid with ADHD, including learning and language disabilities, tics, Tourette syndrome, seizures and headaches, and psychiatric disorders. The next 3 chapters cover management, medications, diets, and alternative controversial therapies. The final chapters address prognosis and prevention, management roles, and research goals.
