Many studies show that pain in children is underestimated and therefore, inadequately treated. Anxiety and pain even in minor procedures is a common and often overlooked problem. This convenient handbook attempts to present comprehensive information on pain management and sedation in infants, children, and adolescents in an easy-to-use manner. The book is conveniently divided into 5 sections using an outline format.
The first section discusses the management of acute pain. Here, strategies for pain assessment are reviewed. Detailed pharmacologic options then follow over several chapters. A successful transition from intravenous or epidural analgesics to oral or transdermal medication is made in this section. Each chapter is excellent in content and readability. Numerous tables and figures are clearly displayed and easy to follow. As a handbook, the print is quite small but intelligible.
