Even though this book is written from the perspective of child abuse in the United Kingdom, it is a worldwide problem and pertains just as much to the United States. This second edition is longer and more fully illustrated than the previous edition.

Poverty affects 1 in 3 children in the United Kingdom. Poverty and despair in parents frequently perpetuates child abuse. Teenage pregnancy and single mothers promote the unwanted child. The urgent issue to prevent abuse, to recognize abuse early, and to investigate its worst effect can only be addressed by recognizing and rectifying the worst problem in our society. Sexual abuse alone accounts for 300,000 cases per year in children younger than 18 years in the United States.
